About Vision Regeneration.
Vision Regeneration is a nonprofit organization that has served Dallas County in the area of violence prevention, gang intervention , and youth rehabilitation since 1998. Responding to the escalating violence and negative youth culture in central Dallas, Vision Regeneration’s mission is to change the cultural environment of at-risk youth, and to eliminate violent and destructive behavior.

Vision Regeneration employs a number of methodologies to affect change in the hearts and minds of the youth that are a part of it's various programs. Through spiritual ministry, community-based mentoring, positive entertainment and hands-on intervention, Vision’s founder and executive director, Omar Jahwar, has committed his life to creating an alternative youth culture. His accomplishments are recognized internationally for producting systemmatic changes in the thinking and actions of today’s youth.

Vision Regeneration is one of five nationally recognized "Violence Free Zone" (VFZ) programs in the country. Through a partnership with the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise (“CNE”) Vision Regeneration has effectively implemented this program in Texas and has provided assistance to other organizations to implement this program nationwide. VFZ was developed by Robert Woodson and is based on the philosophy that crime and violence cannot be merely averted or displaced, but prevented through transforming individuals who participate in crime and violence.

The Vision Regeneration VFZ program hires ex-offenders, who once terrorized their communities, and gives them the opportunity to positively impact young lives. These young men and women mentor at-risk teens unfortunately pre-destined for a life of violence, drugs, and crime. They provide social civility by stabilizing gang peace in the community.

VFZ has positively impacted drop out rates; attendance; improved grades and truancy. Since its’ inception as a pilot program with the Dallas Independent School District in 2000, the VFZ has become a model that the U.S, Department of Justice has embraced.

Vision Regeneration has surrounded itself with partners who have a vested interest in minimizing gang violence. Its partners include the Dallas Housing Authority, The Real Estate Council, South Dallas Trust Fund, King of Glory, The Foundation for Community Empowerment, FannieMae Foundation, The Enterprise Foundation and Driversselect.
